We took an “after-school” field trip to Chiminike, a 3-story building in Tegucigalpa filled with hands-on activities for children.
We enjoyed introducing La Finca to several unexpected visitors. A teacher from Koinonia (where we attended Spanish classes) brought Japanese students to see the compound. And, we met MCC workers Virgil & Kathy and Andrew & Amanda who stopped by La Finca during an outing to Valle.

Audrey continues to practice tone chimes with a group of children on Saturday mornings.

The flowers Dwain planted in front of the church are in full bloom. The zinnias have received many comments - thanks to Sam (from Philadelphia market) for the gift of seeds. Hummingbirds and butterflies find the flowers attractive, too.
Dwain’s trips to collect la basura organica (compostable food waste) from restaurants, pulperias and the market in Valle are popular events among La Finca children. Here’s a group begging for a turn to go along.
For those of you who haven’t lost interest in the shenanigans of ousted President Mel Zelaya, you know he has attempted reentrance into Honduras via the Nicaraguan/Honduran border this weekend. We know first hand the border crossing, Las Manos, having crossed there when returning from Costa Rica last week. Thankfully we were spared the hassles that he faced. The aftermath of his 15 minutes of fame is now being reported: business and commerce through Las Manos is at a standstill, the dozens of demonstrators who hiked many miles around roadblocks to arrive at Las Manos are now without provisions or accommodations, and no resolution appears in this week’s horizon.
