We enjoyed spending the past week with a team from Oklahoma and Kansas led by Jim & Betty Geib, friends of Dwain’s family. The team provided crafts/activities for the children as well as painted the church and worked in the garden. The bilingual abilities of two women on the team was helpful in lessening communication barriers and keeping the children on task during activities. We, along with the Horsts and Andrea, ate meals with the team. Thanks, ladies, for the gift of prepared meals – a mix of Mexican, Honduran and American.

The children at La Finca had vacation from school last week for Semana Santa (Holy Week). An exciting point in the week was finding a large iguana on the driveway. Also, the children took turns swimming in the pool behind Andrea’s house. The pool gets filled once a year – the week of Easter.

One afternoon Audrey assisted the Horst children and Heidi (a girl on the Oklahoma team) in dying eggs with natural dyes (since man-made dyes are not available) – coffee, paprika, and raspberry concentrate.

Late afternoon on Good Friday Audrey and Charissa (a member of the Oklahoma team) happened to meet a couple from New Zealand in Valle. They had just been robbed while visiting the waterfalls several miles up the road, had been hiking all day, and did not have money for a taxi back to the Christian camp where they were staying near La Finca. We invited them to La Finca for supper and learned they are spending three months traveling north through Central America visiting and helping missionaries. After supper, Harlan drove them to the camp.

Periodically Janelle graciously allows Audrey to use her food processor to make peanut butter. Zack always seems to be readily available post-process.

We spent much of Saturday at El Picacho, a national park on the north side of Tegucigalpa. We took two trucks and 16 people. Some people ventured a ride in the back of Harlan’s capped truck – a bumpy, smoggy, hot, dusty ride. Those of us in the front took advantage of the AC. El Picacho boasts a large statue of Jesus and a good view of sprawling Tegucigalpa.

For Easter morning breakfast we had strawberries, mangos and ciruelas. Audrey delighted in the warmest Easter she’s ever experienced.
