Thursday afternoon we traveled with Janelle & Harlan to Teguc. Janelle and Audrey purchased groceries while Harlan and Dwain visited hardware stores. Andrea took the bus and met us in town. Coming home, we weren’t sure whether to feel conspicuous or inconspicuous. Generally the Horst’s truck receives stares because it is not a common color or model in Honduras. With the 300 foot of 2-inch plastic pipe coiled on the roof and secured by running rope through the back door windows so the doors could no longer open, the truck bed full of groceries, and a number of people piled inside we thought we might be on the way to blending in with the everyday traffic. Around the winding mountainous turns, Andrea and Dwain extended their arms through the open back door windows to steady the load. We arrived safely back at La Finca and were greeted, as usual, by many children eager to help carry bags of groceries to our houses.
The pipe purchase was made to compliment the water storage tank and tubing purchased by the director of La Finca for irrigating the garden. The dry season is gearing up as the rainy spells become rare. So, hand watering will soon be less of a daily task. Rows not yet mulched dry out rapidly. This also means Dwain is braving larger sowings of water-loving crops of squash, cucumbers, melons and lettuce.

Audrey spent most of Saturday in the kitchen with Janelle, making whoopie pies for the children at La Finca. The background (or at times not so background) music for the morning hours, was WJTL’s Kid’s Cookie Break. This lasted until Cousin Josh Skyped the Horst children, and they paused the music to chat with him.

Anticipation is building for the work team from Metzler Mennonite Church to arrive for a week’s stay this coming week. The Finca guys have been clearing out the old boy’s dorms that are slated for demolition as well as steadily making progress on the renovated building that will host the computer lab.
